Coppergate Helmet – 8th Century Anglo-Saxon Reconstruction
Step back into early medieval England with our Coppergate Helmet, an exquisite recreation of the original 8th-century Anglo-Saxon helmet discovered in York, England. Unearthed in May 1982 during the famous Coppergate archaeological excavations—the same site that revealed countless Viking and Saxon treasures—this helm is a tribute to one of Britain’s most significant historical finds.
Lovingly handcrafted from 2mm (14-gauge) mild steel, the helmet features brass-cast fittings for authentic detailing and a vegetable-tanned leather inlay with chin strap for comfort and security. Its craftsmanship blends durability with museum-quality accuracy, ideal for reenactment, display, or collection.
To showcase its true heritage, we’ve included an image of the original Coppergate Helmet as exhibited in the museum—allowing you to appreciate how faithfully this reconstruction captures the historic design.
